Dear Franklin Elementary School families,
It is with great pride and excitement that I write this letter of introduction to you as the newly appointed Principal of Franklin Elementary School. It is truly an honor to become a part of this family and community, as well as to have the opportunity to lead a school with such a rich tradition of education. I am excited and eager to bring my skills as an educational leader to Franklin Elementary and work with you as a partner in education to ensure your child’s success. As the African Proverb states, “It takes a village to raise a child.”
My goal is to ensure the education of the WHOLE child, through not only providing academic experiences that are rigorous, relevant and differentiated, but to also help them build healthy relationships while making real world connections. I have been dedicated to this philosophy for 15 years while working for the New York City Department of Education, specifically in the Harlem area as both a teacher and an Assistant Principal. Since leaving Toronto, Ontario, Canada in 2004 I have learned that our purpose as educators is to address gaps in students’ learning, support challenges that are beyond their control, and motivate them to aspire to greatness.
I look forward to learning with you and from you this year. Together we will continue to support the vision at Franklin Elementary of committing to equitable outcomes for all students and facilitating opportunities for them to have high aspirations and gain knowledge, skills, and dispositions needed to thrive in a global community. As your Principal, it is important to me that everyone who steps through our doors- teachers, students, parents and community partners- are excited to be here! This attitude enables us to meet the challenges of academic excellence in a positive, fun, and nurturing environment. My door is always open and I welcome your input. Please feel free to call or email me to discuss any questions, concerns, ideas or to share any shout-outs you might have throughout the school year.
Looking forward to meeting you soon.
Franklin Elementary Principal
